This is one of dramatic masterpieces produced in China. With the cooperation of The National Theatre Company of China, Dougeza takes up challenges of bringing it onto the stage in Japan in honor of the 35th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Japan and China.
At a college a farmer’s son from a countryside meets a son of a rich man from a big city. They make good friends. The family of the city boy is wealthy, but his parents are divorced and he lives just with his father. Though the father is losing his self-control in the midst of severe business situation, he gives his son as much money as he wants. Now he is desperately going through tough waves of the economic world.
The farmer’s son, on the other hand, goes back to the country where he has to live in a miserable condition without much money. His father cultivates his fields fighting against merciless nature, but his life is nothing more than that. His life is also pitiable.
The father, knowing his son wants to go back to college to study, persuades his daughter to leave school against her will and visits other homes in the village to borrow money for his son’s tuitions.
This drama presents us with various phases of our society ; the difference between big cities and countrysides, different circumstances, different families, different fathers…….
The relationships between father and son seems to be almost the same at any age. This drama reminds us of something important we are likely to forget; simple and pure love between parent and child.
